How does the COVID-19 affect me buying or selling a home?

People are beginning to see that COVID-19 is impacting nearly every aspect of their lives and now people are wondering will it affect the sale of my home? The simple answer is, “COVID-19 should not affect selling your home.” Northwest Home Team Realty in Tumwater, Washington is committed to our clients and to do our best to ensure you and everyone in your home to stay healthy during this time of heightened concern.

Remember COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person; meaning it is spread primarily between people who are in close contact with one another, approximately 6 feet. The second means of infections comes from coming into contact with respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Other than the highly publicized means of protection of washing and sanitizing your hands, avoiding close contact with those who are sick, the Northwest Home Team is making the following suggestions to ensure your home stays a safe zone for you and your family.

    WHEN SELLING YOUR HOME:

Keep it Clean – You’re trying to sell your home, of course your home is clean, but before and after showings or open house go over high traffic areas with a bleach cleaner or antibacterial cleaner. There are a few areas to keep in mind:

    • Door nobs
    • Light switches
    • Handles on the sink and toilet

Keep Hands Clean – A nice way to accomplish this is to leave hand sanitizer by the front door with a sign that says: “Please sanitize your hands before and after your tour of our home. Thank you.” Northwest Home Team has provided these signs for all of our Realtors.

If at any time while your house is active on the market and anyone in the home starts to exhibit signs of COVID-19, please contact your realtor to come up with a plan.

    WHEN BUYING A HOME

Keep hands clean – When you are viewing a home, your Northwest Home Team Realty Agent should be carrying hand sanitizer with them, so be sure to use it before entering the home. While in the home you should:

    • Use a barrier between your hand and surfaces like light switches or doorknobs
    • Sanitize hands often
    • Avoid touching your face without clean hands

If you make an appointment to view a home but start to feel any symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your Realtor and reschedule.
